A Few Words in Support of Slow
The Slow Living concept is a lifestyle choice that puts the emphasis on relationships:
to people
to food & drink
to our environment. It’s a vision for a life in balance between our obligations and choosing leisure. None of these concepts are new - if fact, in the past they were better understood.
Remember when appliances were pitched as time-saving devices? People didn’t think, ‘Yay! That gives me more time to work”. Remember there is a time when people literally died trying to advocate for a forty-hour work week.
These days it’s almost a contest to see who is busiest and most ragged and worn out.
A long (long, long) time ago, I graduated with a degree in Leisure. Even in the early 1990s the evidence was conclusive that reclaiming the luxury of leisure makes for happier people - and that stress based illnesses were on the rise (and preventable). The real cure for the busy-ess of the modern era is place value on leisure, then slow down enough to appreciate it.
Want to be more contented? Slow Down. Do leisure. Unplug.
5 Scientifically Proven Benefits To Unplugging
