Plant-based temporary body art at Alchemy all year

Private appointments available in a beautiful, peaceful studio

Tuesday - Saturday

Hands down the most common question is…

How much does it cost?

Most people spend $30-$40 at a half hour appointment. The best analogy is that it’s like going to the gas station: you can pick a budget, or you can ‘fill it up’*

Yes, you need an appointment (only via the website)

The button takes you to a whole website dedicated to the body art services at Alchemy:

  • Each appointment listing gives a price range and manages expectations for how much time we need to give you the amount of art you want

  • Please note we do require a debit/credit card for no-show protection and you’ll want to read the same-day cancellation policy

  • Services outside regular business hours are possible, and are prepaid

What’s the difference between henna and jagua?

Both henna and jagua are plants.

Henna is a small shrub endemic to North Africa (Morocco, for example) and South East Asia (specifically India and Pakistan). The botanical name is Lawsonia inermis.

  • Henna stains the skin in orange / red / mahogany colors

  • People are very rarely sensitive to henna

  • My henna paste recipe incudes: powdered henna plant, water, sugar and essential oils

Jagua ‘ink’ comes from the fermented juice of an edible fruit and is found in the Amazon rain forests of Brazil. The botanical name is Jenipa americana.

  • Jauga stains the skin blue like a tattoo

  • Sometimes people are sensitive to jagua; espeicllay if you’re allergic to citrus or strawberries

  • Sometimes I use jagua powder, sometimes paste. Ingredients can include jagua juice, fructose, xanthan gum and lavender essential oil.

Not a home, a business - but spa-like -

More and more I get calls from folks making sure they’re coming to a place of business and not a home. But it’s very peaceful and safe for body art without an audience.

While the studio is really cozy, it is a business. Alchemy is located in Downtown Ferndale near the library, bars, restaurants and shopping.

We do henna crowns, maternity, bridal, tummy-tuck scar cover ups, feet, legs hands, backs, and bums. I even henna hair.

Prices vary from $30 at a 1/2 hour session to $300 for specialty or bridal.
